ABOUT THE LOGO
The snail is Ryssota otaheitana, an endemic land snail of the Philippines. This represents the central purpose of the laboratory which is to conduct scientific researches focused on biodiversity, ecology and evolution of mollusks in the country.
The branch with leaves represents the stable ecosystem which mollusks are a part of. The laboratory also aimed to promote molluscan conservation and the protection of their habitats, balanced with studies on the utility of these natural resources for the benefit of Filipinos.
The text shows the official font for the Malacology Laboratory logo. The bold text represents the strong commitment of the faculty, researchers and students of the laboratory to standout and become leaders in the field of Malacology in the Philippines
The outer boarder showing an outline of a molluscan shell with green and maroon colors represents the University of the Philippines, and its central values of honor and excellence. The Malacology Laboratory within the IBS, CAS and UPLB has an aligned mission and vision to serve as catalyst for change and progress.
The background with gradient of colors signifies the biodiversity of Philippine flora and fauna which includes mollusks. It also represents the natural and anthropogenic changes that affects the survival of these animals.
